There are different ways to expand your knowledge about all of the indigenous cultures in Alaska. You could encourage your employer to train your staff and customize a Cultural Awareness Workshop. Let us be a part of your educational journey.
WALKING IN TWO WORLDS
6th - 8th grades
A program designed to help students at risk of dropping out of school.
The new Walking in Two Worlds project is designed to help Alaska Native/American Indian students at risk of failure in school due to high absenteeism, behavior problems, poor adjustment, or facing disciplinary action such as in-or-out of school suspension or expulsion.
Walking in Two Worlds staff members will work with these students, school staff members, and parents to put them back “on-track” to graduate. Services such as, counseling, tutoring, mental health and/or social services will also be utilized as needed.
A key component of the program is connecting students with their cultural roots through Alaska Native arts, games, and dance. Project staff members will also strive to improve the student’s social-emotional skills, personal responsibility, and positive identity.
In addition to working with families, school staff, and students during school hours, Walking in Two Worlds will also offer an afterschool program at the Alaska Native Heritage Center that will include homework time, cultural activities, group discussions, and socialization.
